1. Madrid’s EuroPride attracts millions

Madrid’s EuroPride, an event that concluded this past weekend after 10 days of celebration, attracted more than 1.5 million visitors from around the world. The event coincided with the Spanish capital city’s own Pride event and other pride events in Paris and in the UK.

2. Air traffic controllers wear dresses to protest

US air traffic controllers have been protesting against the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration's dress code by wearing high-fashion dresses and gowns to work. The dress code, which has been in place since last September, prohibits wearing jogging outfits, halter-tops, shorts and jeans to work.

3. Trans prisoner sues rehab department

Edwin, a Puerto Rican transgender woman has filed a lawsuit against the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation for negligence and for failing to protect her from being sexually assaulted. The trial began on July 2nd.

4. New Yorkers celebrate Trans Day of Action

Nearly 1,000 New Yorkers participated in the third Trans Day of Action for Social and Economic Justice on June 22nd. Organized by the TransJustice of the Audre Lorde Project, the march focused on the rights of homeless trans youths and adults.

5. Church wedding a possibility for Swedish LGBT citizens

The "gender neutral" marriage legislation in Sweden, if approved, will work to extend the right to its LGBT community to religious wedding ceremonies in Lutheran churches starting January 2008. Sweden would become the first nation in the world to allow LGBT partners to marry within a major church setting.

6. Thailand offers protection to its LGBT citizens

Authors of Thailand’s new constitution have agreed to include clauses in the new constitution so as to give official status to gay, lesbian, transgender and transvestite groups and thus to protect them from discrimination.

7. Lambda Legal honors Texan Congresswoman

Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, on June 30th honored Texan Congresswoman Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson with the prestigious Profile Award for her support of the LGBT community, and transgender teen Rochelle Evans of Fort Worth and her mother with the Garner Courage Awards.
