1.Voting on hate crimes bill in Senate sidelined
The voting on the Matthew Shepard Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007, the bill that was filed by Sens. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) and Gordon Smith (R-Ore.) and if passed would protect gay and trans people across the nation, was postponed by the Senate in order to focus on other amendments relating the Iraq war.

2.Metis (trans women) get assaulted by Nepalese police
The Nepalese police in Kathmandu assaulted three young metis (trans women) when they were found to be carrying condoms. This assault came not even a year after around thirty gays and metis were assaulted and mistreated by the police in Kathmandu.

3.Transgender woman files case against club in Scotsdale, AR
Michele DelaFreniere, a transgender woman, has filed a sex discrimination complaint against the owner of the Anderson's Fifth Estate, a club in Scotsdale, Arizona after she and her group of trans women were told to leave and banned them from the club.

4.Jerusalem’s World Pride event canceled
The part of the World Pride Parade scheduled to be organized in Jerusalem on August 10th has been canceled due to safety issues. All the other parts of the world-wide events that are scheduled from August 6 to 12 are expected to go ahead as planned.

Maria Teresinha Gomes, who successfully passed as General Tito Anibal da Paixao Gomes, a man, for nearly 20 years until being discovered to be a woman, passed away this past week.
